Deciduous, extremely large, 40-90 cm, odd pinnate, densely pilose beneath, serrate margins, lushly yellow autumn colour. Called ‘palm of the north’ due to its remarkably large leaves

Fruits

Rotund to slightly ovoid nuts in clusters, 3-7.5 cm long, slightly smaller than J. regia, yellow-green, thick and rough husk, glandular hair, edible, August to October

Demands

Sun, exceptionally hardy, does not tolerate salt

Soil

Fresh, nutritious, evenly moist, alkaline

Pruning in late summer if necessary. In general pruning should be avoided.
