Vigorous water plant floating, leaves lying flat on the water; rhizomes creeping in the mud; fast-growing and taking up large areas. Average
Blossom
Wide-open, bowl-shaped, floating directly on the water; white with numerous yellow stamen; opening in the morning, closing late afternoon; June to August; not flowering if water is cold

Round, lying on the water; pale green, rising above the water level if water is too shallow
Demands
Full sunlight, does not tolerate shade, likes warmth, frost hardy in water, protect root system well in drained ponds as it is sensitive to frost; needs winter protection, sensitive to waves

Tip
Separate the various functions as the white water lily will be damaged by fountains, splashing water, or bathing. Weigh down rhizomes with a rock to keep them from floating during planting and establishment.
