Characteristics:

Habit

Large shrub with many stems and runners, 3-6 m tall; forms extended thickets; slow-growing, 10-15 cm a year; young sprouts up to 60 cm

Blossom

Numerous slender, white flowers panicles with stamen extended far out, July to August; decorative, important summer flowers

Leaves

Palmate; bronze shoots; strong yellow in autumn or only yellow-green with red petioles, October

Fruits

Rare; leathery, thornless capsules

Roots

Shallow , enough runners when roots are damaged; sensitive to soil compaction

Demands

Sun to semi-shade, tolerates heat, likes warmth, frost hardy, but does not grow much in cold areas; good for urban areas
