Habit
Extended, dense closed carpets of leaves, peduncles stiffly upright, very rampant with far-creeping runners

Sulphur-yellow labial flowers in layers arranged around whorls, flowering long, June to August

Semi-evergreen, large, coarse, cordate leaves, light to fresh green
Fruits
The stiff peduncles stay on over winter, splendid in hoar frost
Demands
Sun, tolerates heat, needs warmth, mostly frost hardy
Soil
Dry to fresh, well-drained, not too nutritious, otherwise fast-growing, all substrates that are not too heavy
Tip
A root barrier will be necessary to keep Phlomis russeliana contained. Paved paths will not halt the runners.
