Habit:
Round crown, large tree, 20-25 (30) m tall, 8-12 (15) m wide; usually short-stemmed, branches reaching upwards, twigs vertically
upright to horizontal, hardly overhanging; fast-growing, initially 80-120 cm, later 40-60 cm a year.
Flowers:
Citrus-yellow umbels before leaves shoot, April, fruits fragrance, one of the few conspicuous flowering indigenous trees.
Fruits:
Lemon yellow umbels before leaves shoot, April, fruit-like fragrance, one of the few conspicuously flowering deciduous trees, early and excellent insect grazer, pollen.
Leaves:
Five-lobed, early shoots end of April; saturated green; splendid yelloworange in autumn, occasionally red, October to November.
Roots:
Flat to cordate, sensitive to soil compaction, easy to transplant.
Demands:
Sun to light shade, tolerant of heat, frost hardy; very adaptable and not demanding; tolerates urban environments, wind resistant; grows very well.
Soil:
On all substrates except poor, acidic sandy soil.
Note:
Do not cut in spring as it has too many flowers; initially only light fertilisation to prevent coral spot.
