Habit:
Loose, medium-size tree, 12-15 (20) m tall, 4-8 m wide; loose crown; broadly conical, often with several stems, branches to the ground; stems occasionally bent and forked, branches horizontal, twigs decoratively arching with nodding twig tips; medium-growing, 20-40 (50) cm a year; in 20 years 12.5 m tall and 5 m wide.

Leaves:
Short needles, shiny dark green on top, white stripes underneath; two rows.

Sun to semi-shade, sensitive to heat, likes cool, humid areas, frost hardy; sensitive to urban pollution, prefers breezy areas.
Soil:
Fresh to moist; sensitive to drought; acidic to neutral, chlorotic if chalky; on all sandy-humic to loamy substrates, avoids heavy soil where it does not grow.
Tip:
Along with Taxus and Thuja, the best conifer for cutting, training also possible.
