Habit
A broad, domed, large shrub, 3-5 (6) m tall and wide; stems arching upright, twigs extended, some lying on the ground, sometimes taking root, forming thicket-like colonies; twigs thick, with clearly visible, velvety hairs; fast-growing, a year 40-80 cm

Before leaves shoot, decorative, silvery catkins, later yellow, March to April; honey scented

Large, obovate, velvety to the touch,  dull grey-green, grey-tomentose underneath, with stipules; falling without autumn colours from October to November
