Characteristics:

Habit

Petiole climber/trellis climber, 3-6 m tall, 2-4 m habit width; support diameter 0.2-1 cm; medium to fast-growing, 40-60 (120) cm a year

Blossom

Four sepals, white, 5-6 cm, beginning of May, sensitive to late frost, many fragrant flowers

Leaves

In threes, shoots reddish, then pale green; leaves are dense, casting deep shade

Demands

Sunny to lightly shady, tolerates warmth, usually frost hardy; moderately resistant to wind

Soil

Fresh to moist, slightly acidic to alkaline, nutritious; always well drained substrates; sensitive in too heavy, compacted, or hot soil in the sun
