Habit
Large shrub or small tree, 4-5 m tall, 3-5 m wide; loose and asymmetrical, slow-growing
Blossom
Four bracts, blinding white, up to 10 cm across; May; the actual flower heads are an inconspicuous greenish brown in the centre of the bracts
Leaves
Green, broadly elliptical; nice orange to scarlet in autumn
Demands
Shady to semi-shady; sensitive to heat, good for moderate or cool, not cold areas, moderately frost hardy, protected areas recommended, likes very high humidity
Soil
Moist to fresh; acidic to slightly alkaline, best in humic, sandy-loamy soil, not growing much on heavy soil
