Characteristics:

Habit

Large shrub, 3-4 m or small tree up to 7 m tall, 3-5 m wide, loose and extended like a funnel, umbrella-shaped as a tree; slow to moderate growth, 25-40 cm a year

Blossom

Interesting light yellow autumn flowers that develop while leaves are still green in September and stay on when leaves turn yellow in October or November and sometimes even into the beginning of December, providing an uncommon picture of a flowering shrub with autumn colours; pleasant fragrance

Leaves

Reverse ovoid, often asymmetrical, pale green, in bright red, orange and then yellow in September

Fruits

Brownish, unpalatable

Roots

Cordate with fine root system; sensitive to compaction, pavements and mechanical injuries

Demands

Sun to shade, frost hardy, needs wind protection, resistant to air and soil pollution

Soil

Fresh to moist; slightly acidic to slightly alkaline, good in all well drained, loamy-humic soil
