Characteristics:
Habit
Broadly bushy large shrub, 2-5 m tall and wide; asymmetrical, twigs partially on the ground and taking root; medium or only slow-growing; not more than 2 m tall as cut hedge
Blossom
Small, white panicles, June to July; with pungent scent from afar
Leaves
Early shoots at end of April, deciduous to semi-evergreen, pointed oval, leathery, dark green, pale green in autumn, sometimes bronze; October to November
Fruits
Pea-size, black berries, colours turning in August, some persistent into next spring; unpleasant taste, slightly poisonous
Roots
Very intense, shallow; tolerate covering
