Characteristics:

Habit

Picturesque large shrub, 5-10 m tall and up to 5 m wide, initially slenderly upright, later pyramidal, dense crown, moderately fast-growing

Blossom

Large-flowered, intense light yellow, during leaf sprouting, 7-8 cm large, tulip-shaped, end of April to mid-May, flowering for about 3 weeks, slightly fragrant

Leaves

Large, up to 20 cm long, deciduous, grassy to medium green, dull, ovoid, yellowish-brown in autumn

Roots

Flat, fleshy, sensitive to mechanical damage

Demands

Sun, slightly off-sun, good frost hardiness, likes high humidity, avoids dry and hot locations, protected from wind

Soil

Fresh to moist, loose, humic, well-drained substrates, acidic to slightly alkaline, more tolerant of lime than other magnolias
