Characteristics:
Habit
Medium-sized tree, 15-20 m tall, 2-4 m wide, crown closed, conical to ovoid, asymmetrical when old, loose and bizarre; branches and twigs arching upward, stem with branches to the ground. Slow-growing, 15-20 cm a year; in 35 years 7.5 m tall and 3.5 m wide

Needles in fives, soft, blue-green, ca. 8 cm long, densely packed
Fruits
The 6-8 cm long cones are only formed after 50-80 years; seeds are edible (pine nuts)

Sun, does not take well to shade, loses its foliage when cramped; tolerates warmth but sensitive to heat, prefers cold, humid areas, very frost hardy; wind resistant
