Usually upright and asymmetrical, extended normal to large shrub, 2-4 m tall and wide; thorny twigs; medium to strong-growing
Blossom
After leaves shoot, white 'hawthorn like' flowers, end of May to June; pungent scent of hawthorn

Semi-evergreen to evergreen, ovoid or lanceolate, shiny dark green, also in winter black green
Fruits
Pea-size fruits in yellow, orange or red, from end of August, mealy taste; a unique, decorative fruit shrub

Deep; not sensitive to paving and moderate covering
Demands
Sun to semi-shade; few flowers and fruit in heavy shade; extremely tolerant of heat; moderately frost hardy to sensitive; otherwise not demanding, robust; resistant to urban pollution, wind resistant
Soil
Dry to fresh, slightly acidic to very alkaline, the more chalk in the soil, the more droughts are tolerated; any somewhat nutritious substrate; avoid heavy loam or clay as frost damage is increased enormously; somewhat tolerant of salt
Note
Tolerant of any cutting, can be trained as a hedge or for trellises (then 4-5 m tall) or as a half-size plant for ground cover; cut in spring.
