Habit:
Exquisite large shrub or small tree, 4-6 m tall, 2-5 m wide, often with several stems; broader than wide when old; loose crown, slow-growing,
15-20 cm a year.
Flowers:
After leaves shoot, reddish racemes; June.
Fruits:
Initially reddish, very attractive.
Leaves:
Five to eleven-lobed, deeply cut, changing, fresh green, glowing orange to red in autumn, October.
Roots:
Flat, somewhat sensitive.
Demands:
Prefers light shade, cool, humid areas protected from winter and wind, sensitive to late frost, heat and drought.
Soil:
Likes slightly acidic, sandy-humic-loamy, well drained substrates, not heavy or compacted soil on which it hardly grows and is sensitive to frost when young.
Note:
Do not cut Acer palmatum.
