Habit:
Densely bushy normal shrub, 3-4 (6) m tall, 1.5-3 m wide in favourable areas, or small tree with several stems, slow-growing, 10-15 cm a year.
Flowers:
Small, yellow-green, pungent smell, April-May.
Fruits:
Inconspicuous.
Leaves:
Evergreen, leathery, ovoid, dark to blackish green, shiny, aromatic, bronze or blackish in winter when sun shines; green again in spring.
Roots:
Intense cordate roots.
Demands:
Sun to shade, the more shade in the area, the looser the habit; likes warmth and tolerates heat; frost hardy, good for urban areas, sensitive
to snow pressure.
Soil:
Well drained, fresh to moderately dry soil, slowgrowing and sensitive to frost on heavy soil (clay); neutral to alkaline; sensitive to salt.
Tip:
Tolerates cutting very well, from June to August; later cutting reduces frost hardiness.
Note:
Due to numerous pests, the use of Buxus is very limited right now.
