Habit:
Medium-size tree, 12-20 m tall, 5-10 m wide, straight leader, dense, round crown, spreading branches, annual shoot 30-50 cm, medium fast growing.
Flowers:
Diocesous, inconspicuous, wind pollinated, male flowers, female flowers, green, (March) April-(May)
Fruits:
Green, later brown, winged nuts, 2-3 cm long, June to November.
Leaves:
Deciduous, soft, dark green, elliptically pointed, alternate, 12 cm long, ulm-like, intense golden yellow in autumn, milky sap-bearing, slightly
poisonous raw.
Bark:
Young twigs initially yellowish-brown, hairy, later greyish-brown bark, corky, can be harvested every 3-4 years; used in traditional Chinese medicine and roasted in Korea as a tea.
Roots:
Far-reaching flat-root tree.
Demands:
Sun, heat-resistant, tolerates long periods of drought, tolerates pruning, not wind-resistant due to its
shallow root system, healthy, robust, resistant to industry.
Soil:
Dry to fresh, tolerates all soils, sandy, loamy, clayey, likes deep soil.
