Euonymus yedoensis - Euonymus

This genus is not among the impressive flowering plants, but the deciduous species have very decorative fruit and glowing autumn colours. Of the many evergreen species, only E. fortunei and its varieties can be recommended without reservation.

Habit:
Shrub, 2-3 m tall/wide; squat, branches forming a funnel, slow-growing.
Fruits:
Light carmine (pink), orange seed cases; from September; exceptionally profuse fruits!
Leaves:
Elliptical, medium-green, splendid autumn colours from September on, in pink hues next to the pink fruit, also reddish orange; only has good colours in full sun..
Demands:
Sun to light shade, very crooked in deep shade, tolerates warmth; frost hardy; wind resistant.
Soil:
Nutritious, somewhat heavy soil, slightly acidic to alkaline, moderately dry to moist.
Note:
A very good species for pruning that is used too seldom in landscaping.
