Characteristics:
Habit
Small shrub, 1-1,5 (2) m tall and wide, initially stiffly upright, eventually extended and domed; twigs lying on the ground when old; ascending
Blossom
Inconspicuous, when the leaves shoot, yellow-green, male racemes in April (May)
Leaves
Very early shoots, some at the beginning of April, somewhat fragrant; fresh green, three to five-lobed, roundish, persistent
Roots
Cordate; tolerates root pressure, very sensitive to soil compaction, tolerates covering
Demands
Light shade to shade, in the sun only in cool, moist areas; frost hardy; does not tolerate heat and drought; moderately good for urban areas, wind resistant
Soil
Moderately dry to moist; slightly acidic to alkaline, sandy-gravelly or sandy-loamy substrates; tolerant of salt
Note
Good for cutting; cut any time; the less fertiliser used or the poorer the soil, the more compact and squat the shrub; always losing its habit on nutritious substrates
