Habit

A broadly upright, large shrub, 2-4 (5) m tall and wide; often thicket-like; twigs horizontal to arching, medium to strong-growing

Blossom

After leaves shoot, numerous plate-shaped cymes, blinding white, a wreath of sterile marginal flowers, small cream or pink-white fertile flowers in the middle; May to June

Leaves

Three to five-lobed, like maples, fresh green, from October orange-red; splendid autumn colours

Fruits

Transparent, shiny, red stone berries, from September, often persistent into the following spring; unpalatable

Roots

Shallow and far-reaching, forming runners; not sensitive to floods and compaction
