Sun to light shade, semi-shade still possible; warm to cool areas; avoids hot, dry areas; frost hardy, resistant to late frost; medium to extremely high humidity; sensitive to wind

Fresh to damp; slightly acidic to moderately alkaline; sandy loam to loam, best when well drained and nutritious.
