Habit

Like a perennial and semi-shrub, slightly fan like climber; woody at the base; 1.2-1.5 m tall when free-standing, on trellises upt o 2 m tall, very loose

In clusters, flatly extended, 7-10 cm in diameter, deep indigo-blue; mid-June to beginning of August

Leaves

Simple, not pinnate, petioles not climbing; dark green, ovoid, pale yellow in autumn

Sunny to shady, likes heat, moderately frost hardy

Fresh to moist, slightly acidic to moderately alkaline, in nutritious, somewhat well drained substrates
