Specifications :

Origin:
Hybride A. rubrum x A. saccharinum
Habit:
Medium-sized tree, 10-12 (15) m height, depending on variety even taller, width varying, regular crown, fast-growing.
Flowers:
Before leaves shoot in March, varying orange-red flower panicles.
Leaves:
Deciduous, three to fivelobed, fresh green above, greyish green beneath, slotted; striking yellow orange to red autumn colour
following warm summers, sometimes bicoloured leaves.
Bark:
Some varieties silvery grey, shoots greyish brown.
Roots:
Cordate with fine, wide spread root system.
Demands:
Sun to no direct sun, frost hardy, thrives even in compressed soil, somewhat sensitive to warmth, resistant to wind and urban climates.
Soil:
All nutritious soils, evenly fresh to moist, will not grow well in loam and clayey soils, calcifuge, tolerates higher pH than A. rubrum.
Note:
The hybrid of A. rubrum × A saccharinum was discovered by Oliver Freeman in 1933 in the U.S. National Arboretum, also occurring in the wild.
