Berberis - Barberries
The group of barberries is one of the largest plant genuses with some 400 species. The plethora of varieties has been increased in recent years with the addition of many cultivars and crosses. They are all thorny shrubs that are deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen, depending on species. Some of the barberries are first-class decorative shrubs, planted less for their flowers than for their decorative leaves. The colourful leaves are complemented by a conspicuous covering of fruits.
