Quercus coccinea

Die ursprünglich aus Nordamerika stammende Scharlach-Eiche steht für den Begiff Indian Summer wie kein anderer Baum. So erstrahlt Quercus coccinea in einem strahlend leuchtenden Rot! Das Gehölz ist nur schwach frostempfindlich und verträgt Kälte bis -26 Grad Celsius und auch Streusalz. Da Quercus coccinea keine Überpflasterung verträgt, eignet sich sich nicht als Straßenbaum. In Parks und Gärtens jedoch ist sie ein garntierter Hingucker.

Conical, medium-size to large tree, 15-20 (25) m tall, 8-12 (15) m wide; branches and twigs diagonally rising or horizontal, hardly overhanging; the first 20 years medium to strong-growing, 20-50 cm a year, later very slow, only 10-15 cm
