Habit

Flat dwarf shrub, some 0.1 m tall, single plant 0.5-1 m wide; prostrate and dense mats, moderately fast-growing

Blossom

Individual, cream-white, June to July, usually under the foliage

Leaves

Evergreen, but usually only semi-evergreen here; widely three to five-lobed, shiny dark green, very wrinkled on top, tomentose-light green underneath; in autumn and winter deep bronze

Fruits

Shiny red like raspberries, edible

Demands

Sun to semi-shade, possible in shade, but not covering the ground; tolerates heat, needs warmth, sensitive to frost; needs high humidity

Soil

Moderately dry to moist; acidic to alkaline, only on well drained soil, failing on heavy substrates
