Quercus - Oak
Fagaceae
Our Quercus
Oak is a large genus with over 280 species. Oaks are mostly broad-spreading, mighty trees. Oak blossoms are monoecious. The male catkins are somewhat ornamental, the acorn fruits appear inconspicuous. Some of the non-native species get impressive hues in autumn. At the end leaves of all oaks get brown and often remain on trees until spring.
