Clematis - Clematis

The genus Clematis comprises some 300 species, most of which are climbers. They have a unique means of climbing; they use their petioles, which they can bend, to wind up aroand supports from 0.2-1.0 cm or even up to 1.5 cm
diameter..
The splendid, plentiful, opening flowers are impressive, in all colours depending on variety, with flowering times into autumn, accompanied by various pungent or sweet scents. In winter, there are cascades of silvery-silky hairs, clusters of fruits.

Note:
The root base of Clematis species and varieties should always be in the shade. It is thus necessary to make sure on planting that low shrubs - especially (semi-) evergreen ones - are planted alongside. All are very sensitive to drought, heat,
compaction, or work on the root base.

If possible, pruning should only take place after flowering.
Relatively sharp pruning of clematis hybrids will result in a
second flowering in autumn.
