The high level of soil dryness causes problems for the trees: they use up their accumulated water reserves much faster.

This project investigates how the future urban tree population can be adapted to longer summer dry phases. To this end, suitable soil substrates are tested in combination with a selection of promising tree species and varieties.

Which trees and shrubs are suitable for wet soils and for how long? The changes in precipitation, as a result of global warming, are leading to more frequent and heavier flooding. What to do?
