Characteristics:
Habit
A small shrub here, 1-1.5 m tall and wide, in very protected areas or in pots up to 3-4 m tall; loose and asymmetrically bushy-upright, moderate growth, 20-40 cm a year.;shoots very elastic and good for topiary

Inflorescences like umbels, buds pink, gradually white when opening; November to April; fragrant

Evergreen, elliptical, usually fresh or shiny dark green, coarse-leathery

Ovoid berries, initially violet, then steel-blue to black, turning colours in August; flowering in spring when fruits appear; berries unpalatable

Sun to shade; tolerates heat, needs warmth, also cool, sensitive to frost, only for protected areas or surviving in the open when covered with fleece; tolerant of urban pollution
