No more certified native-species trees and shrubs in the Lorenz von Ehren nursery.

The Lorenz von Ehren nursery was one of the first tree nurseries to receive ZgG “Zertifizierungsgemeinschaft gebietseigener Gehölze” certification of many trees and shrubs as indigenous. The nursery has now terminated its membership and will no longer offer any indigenous trees in the future.

“In the future, we will focus increasingly on the climate-change line as a specialisation in our comprehensive range of trees,” says Bernhard von Ehren, Managing Partner of the Lorenz von Ehren Nursery, explaining this step. The nursery has been dealing with the topic of “climate change and trees/shrubs” for well over twenty years, so the company also has immense experience in this area.

For example, the company will deal more and more with the topic of “Urban trees of the future – trees in climate change”. The nursery's specialists will closely observe and analyse which tree species and varieties currently classified as suitable for climate change are present in the range and which should also be included.

But another reason led to the decision to say goodbye to the locally native trees and shrubs in the range: the tense plant market situation. “We’re pulling out because our trees are of excellent quality, and this is something that has been recognised on the market for years. It’s what we stand for and you can continue to rely on us,” says Bernhard von Ehren.

“I am not aware of any study thus far that proves that indigenous trees and shrubs provide added value for nature.”
