Rhodo 2023 will take place in Westerstede from 13 to 21 May 2023. The highlight of the 900th anniversary of Westerstede will be the brilliant colours of countless rhododendrons, azaleas and other natural beauties.

The Rhodo extends far beyond the historic town centre into the streets and alleys of the state-recognised health resort.

The Lorenz von Ehren show garden is not far from the church, informs visitors about bee-friendly shrubs and is planted with hundreds of flowering azaleas in keeping with the Rhodo. In addition, large larches from our tree nursery are located directly on the market square.

Rhododendrons are among the most important flowering shrubs in our gardens. In addition to the classic evergreen rhododendrons, the deciduous azaleas and the Japanese azaleas are now always included in this genus.

Rhoododendrons have special requirements for climate and soil. They like humid locations in semi-shady areas. Very shady locations result in fewer flowers and sparse growth. The dense root system needs a loose, humusy soil and gravelly-humic or loamy-humic substrates with perfect pH values between 4.5 and 5.5.
